2020
Engineered Skins 2020
The annual Engineered Skins 2020 symposium was held on the 30th of September. Due to the unprecedented circumstances of COVID-19 the symposium was held entirely online and approximately 100 speakers and attendees logged in from various locations globally for this event. The attendees ranged from industry experts and practitioners to leading academics in the glass and façade community.
The main session of the symposium hosted twelve researchers from the University of Cambridge and TU Delft that presented the findings on their most recent research findings in the fields of structural glass and facade technologies. The symposium also included 2 eminent keynote speakers, Francesc Arbós, President of Bellapart Group, and Kirsten Henson, Director of KLH Sustainability. Interactive Q&A and discussion sessions took place in virtual break-out rooms between the talks.

2019
Engineered Skins 2019
The 10th annual symposium, Engineered Skins 2019, was held at the University of Cambridge on the 12th of September. This year, Engineered Skin welcomed, together with the researchers of the Glass and Façade Technology group, also presentations by the researchers from TU Delft. The day showcased therefore the most recent research from the two leading Universities in the field of structural glass and facade technologies. Lastly, Miriam Dall'Igna from Foster and Partners and Prof. ir. R. Nijsse from TU Delft were the invited keynote speakers for this year symposium. The one-day event was attended by around 90 delegates from active members in the glass and façade community.

2018
Engineered Skins 2018
The latest research on façade technology was presented by the gFT researchers at the Engineered Skins Annual Symposium, held last week at Christ College in Cambridge. 90 delegates from Industry attended the multidisciplinary presentations on wide range of topics, from structural design to regenerative approaches to façade end-of-life. The symposium included two though-provoking keynote speeches by Prof. McRobie (CUED) and Kiru Balson (BRE) and was concluded by a dinner at Christ's College

Engineered Skins 2017
The 8th Engineered Skins symposium was successfully organised by gFT on the 7th of September 2017 in Cambridge. gFT researchers presented the latest findings from their research projects to an audience of 70 guests composed of industry experts and leading academics from the UK, other European countries and beyond. The event also featured two outstanding keynote presentations by Dr Shrikant Sharma from Buro Happold and Dr Jonathan Cullen from the University of Cambridge that provided an insight on novel tools for data driven and people centred building designs and thought-provoking ideas on resource efficiency in the construction and build environment. The event closed with dinner at Christ's College that provided an excellent opportunity to continue the lively discussions.

Engineered Skins 2012
On 6th September 2012, the third Engineered Skins symposium took place at the University of Cambridge. The symposium was organised by the students in the gFT group, this year led by Eleanor Voss. All members of the gFT group presented their latest work, alongside two keynote presentations heard from Mikkel Kragh of Dow Corning, and Jonathan Watts and Pete Winslow of Hopkins Architects and Expedition Engineering respectively. 2011
Space Structure and Skin 2011
The second annual symposium ‘Space Structure and Skin’ saw presentations from 14 research projects within the structures group at the University of Cambridge. The symposium ran in two parallel sessions, with 7 members of the Glass and Façade Technology group presenting their research.
The two keynote presentations were delivered by Aron Mirzada, Façade engineer for the Shard; and Dr Chris Williams from the University of Bath.
The symposium was attended by 80 academics and practicing engineers from across Europe.
2010
Engineered Skins 2010
The first annual symposium ‘Engineered Skins’ was held in September 2010.
Presentations were given by 6 members of the Glass and Façade Technology Group. Additionally two keynote presentations were delivered by Johan Sischka of Waagner Biro, and Nicolo Baldassini of RFR.
The symposium was attended by 60 members from academia and industry.
